To place a personal ad:

Personals are FREE for six months, up to 40 words. Each additional word over 40 is 20 cents. Numbers count as one word. Hyphenated words (for example, 40-word and and/or) count as two. When in doubt, count it.

Be positive: describe what you want in a person, not what you don't want. Negative statements, such as "no doctors or tall people" can be a turn-off. The Chronicle will not print sexually explicit ads. The Chronicle reserves the right to edit to conform to our policy and style, and if your payment is incorrect. Personals must be received by the tenth of the month in order to be included in that month's issue. Include your forwarding address and a signed statement that you are over 18. Please print legibly your name, address and phone number on the same piece of paper as your personal ad and your signed statement. Please indicate which section you would like your ad to appear in: Gay Men, Lesbians, or Bisexuals. All ads will be assigned a box and Voice Personal number, no direct responses will be allowed.

Placing Voice Personals:

You will receive instructions on how to use our Voice Personals system by mail three days after the Chronicle receives your written personal ad (see above). You will then be able to record a spoken message and receive replies on our Voice Personals system via an 800 number at no additional cost to you. The same standards apply to the Voice Personal as the written personal. No sexually-explicit language: please keep it positive. We reserve the right to edit a Voice Personal.
